Technology in the
Classroom
can open many minds using interesting computer lesson
plans.
The Future of IT
Education in High School
There are currently big plans to
further prepare high school students for a future career
in information technology (IT). In addition to bringing
technology in the classroom, business partnerships look
to be the wave of the future. Through these
partnerships, businesses will be able to find technical
talent, while showcasing their facilities to students
looking for future employment. Businesses may even host
their own courses for students, with in depth computer
lesson plans that go beyond what regular teachers have
the ability to prepare. Not only will there be
technology in the classroom, but interested students
will have the opportunity to pursue this educational
opportunity through additional venues.
Why are businesses interested in bringing technology to
the classroom, or more specifically to younger students?
Studies show that the earlier IT education starts, the
better. It’s about more than just having students breeze
through computer lesson plans, it’s about creating
career awareness, exploration and career preparation
opportunities.
Other ways to encourage students to make full use of the
available technology in the classroom is to encourage
job shadowing in middle school, work-based training in
high school and improved teacher training that enables
teachers to create challenging
computer lesson
plans. But in order to do so, a true commitment and
partnership with businesses, trade associations, high
schools and universities is needed. We’re a long way
from that at this point in time. Hopefully these future
initiatives can be implemented to give kids the best
education possible in the IT sector.
