Insect Lesson Plans
An important part of elementary
education is making learning fun. Creating fun science
lesson plans may be one of the hardest lesson plans for
educators to create. One way to create fun science
lesson plans is to study something that most kids are
already fascinated in, like amazing facts and
information about insects. With more kinds of insects on
earth than any other kind of living creature, there's a
wealth of information available to make science lesson
plans fun.
Kids will be interested to learn that 95% of all the
animal species on the earth are insects. Fun science
lesson plans can focus on just one type of insect at a
time, or can start with an overview of the over one
million species of insects that have been discovered by
scientists. Samples of some of these creepy crawlers can
really make elementary education fun.
Not only will kids like finding insects around the
school yard, they'll love seeing exotic samples from
around the world. By comparing the many different types
of insects, your science lesson plans can include
important information about how bugs are so adaptable
and able to evolve over time. With all the fun facts
about insects, your students will receive an in-depth
elementary education in the science behind bugs, while
having a wonderful time.
Remember... All insects must
have:
- three body parts - a head, thorax, and abdomen
- six jointed legs
- two antennae to sense the world around them
- an exoskeleton (outside skeleton)
